The Only Way to Win at Online Poker!

May 29, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Q&A Forum

As poker is becomming evermore popular, A question needs awnsering! Is there a way to win at online poker! The answer is simple.  Study and check out these guidelines, try them at poker time and see for yourself.

Before starting to play the game, keep in mind these simple suggestions:

*Inspect the site.  Make sure that it is authentic.

*Read the terms and conditions of the site.  Check the maximum payouts and the minimum bets.

*Allocate a budget for the day.  That budget will determine how much you are willing to lose or to win in the game. Stick to the limit.

*Do not gamble if you can not afford to lose.

*Try to find sites that offer No deposit poker bonus or offer free poker money

*Practice playing the game.  Familiarize yourself with the game first before you play for real money.

At the table, here are some warnings that you should always remember:

*If you do make a big win, do not be greedy, stop.  Making a big win and gambling it all over again is a big sign of greediness.

*In poker, overall winnings are what count most.  If you are losing, or have already lost your allotted money for the day, don’t try to win your losses back.  You won’t.  Stop.  Tomorrow is another day.

*Drinking alcohol is a big no no at poker time.  It can serious affect your judgment.  So stay away from it while on the game.

*Never take side bets.  Usually these are just gimmicks, so that more money will go to the casino.

*Never gamble your hard earned money unless you are very much ready to lose it.

While in the game, here are some important ideas to think about:

*Gaze at your opponent’s eye.  Survey all their moves.  Observe them, to better know them.  This way, you will fear them less.  This way, you will know when they are bluffing or not.

*Play in silence.  Have that conversation with your self as well as think deep to your opponents actions. Concentrate.

*Base your decisions on what the reality is.  See all movements as they are. Do not fear, instead, be calm and assess their moves accordingly.

*Don’t take it personally.  At the poker table, it is always unavoidable that your opponent can irritate you.  Never give in to such responses.  Stay within the good game.  Be cool and objective. This is a bluffing game.  But do keep in mind that just because your opponent has bluffed earlier, it does not mean that he does all the time.  Think tight.  Review each move.

*Think about what your opponents have.  Create a situation.  So when deciding, you’ll have a better chance to be right.

*Know when to stop.  Is the hand that you are raising now the hand you folded a while ago?  This is a sign that you should go home.

*Play to enjoy. Do not play if you are sad, bored or tired.  If you can’t play having enjoyment as your goal, then don’t play at all!

Famous Poker Players!

May 28, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Q&A Forum

Professional poker players are more and more turning into famous poker players. And not just famous among other poker players: these professionals are turning into something like real celebrities. These becoming-famous poker players are turning Texas Hold’em into a spectator sport.

Thanks to the World Series of Poker (WSOP), the Internet, and ESPN coverage, there are many professional poker players who are no longer obscurities–they are heroes (and, yes, heroines).

Stu Ungar…Scotty Nguyen…Noel Furlong…Chris Ferguson…Carlos Mortensen…Robert Varkonyi…Chris Moneymaker…Greg Raymer…Joseph Hachem…Jamie Gold…Jerry Yang…

Do any of those names sound familiar to you? Even if you’ve never held or folded a Texas Hold’em hand, those names may strike a bell somewhere in your mind. They are the last 10 winners (in order, starting with Ungar in 1997) of the WSOP. The WSOP began all the way back in 1970. Just like with pro football and baseball in those days, there were dynasties, albeit one-man dynasties. Johnny Moss, Doyle Brunson, and, at the beginning of the 1980s, that guy Stu Ungar were the men beat. Those guys are still the guys to beat (one of the good things about Texas Hold’em is that your skills get better, not more diminished, as you “get old”); but as those professional poker players have become famous poker players, their techniques have spread like wildfire, making for more competition and increasingly putting the WSOP final pot up for grabs.

Now, there are more guys, and some lovely ladies, to beat.

You’ve got names like “Amarillo Slim”, “Moneymaker”, and “Jesus” in this great game of Texas Hold’em, too. Ah, poetry in motion!

As I said before, the Internet has been one of the reasons for Texas Hold’em’s meteoric rise in the last 10 years. Many people love playing online now, and it’s a great virtual place to start learning and mastering the game. There are even professional poker players like Niki “KaiBuxxe” Jedlicka who have built the foundations of their careers online, while the likes of Chris Ferguson, Doyle Brunson, and Annie Duke, just to name but a few, are famous poker players whom you can play against online.

Robert Varkonyi says there are advantages to playing online poker. “Playing in your underwear…Playing without offending anyone after eating too much garlic. Jumping up and down and swearing (not in chat) after a mistake or bad beat. Your spouse jumping up and down and telling you that you’re making a mistake as you hit the wrong button.” (Varkonyi’s wife Olga also went far in the 2005 WSOP along with Robert.)

What are some of the hot tips that these masters of the fates give to “regular guys”?

“Find a style that works for you. Mix it up and do what you are comfortable with. You don’t need to bluff a lot if it makes you uncomfortable. Make sure you have a flexible game plan,” says Chris Moneymaker.

“Never limp in…One of the most important rules of Hold’Em — Limit or No Limit — is to never, ever call as the first player to enter a pot before the flop. Either pump up the pot with a raise, or dump your cards in the muck. If your hand isn’t strong enough for a raise, it’s too weak for a call. This tactic makes it more difficult for your opponents to read your hand, and it makes it impossible for the big blind to ever see a flop for free when you’re in the hand,” says Chris “Jesus” Ferguson.

Learn to Play Hold’em’s website can introduce you to these and many other famous professional poker players.

ABC Texas Holdem Poker Strategy Doesn't Work

May 28, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Q&A Forum

ABC Texas Holdem Poker Strategy is essentially strategy completely based on the real odds of winning with the cards that you get. In this strategy having a pair of aces, A-A, is the best possible hand you can be dealt. Having an offsuit 7-2 is the worst possible hand you can start with. A ranking of hands exists based on the probability of those two cards winning the game.

Why I Wouldn’t Rely On An ABC Texas Holdem Poker Strategy

Although I do agree with the overall idea of the ABC system and also agree that higher cards, like A-A and K-K give you a better chance of winning in some respects, I would never rely on an ABC Texas Holdem Poker Strategy. The reason is simple: an ABC Texas Holdem Poker Strategy doesn’t provide the flexibility required to incorporate all of the other factors of the game into your decision. I’m talking about very important factors that should affect you decision like:

- Your play style
- Opponents play style
- Your reputation at the table
- Opponents facial expressions
- Opponents body language
- Your stack size
- Stack sizes of every player
- Blind and/or ante limits
- Time left until the blinds raise (in tournaments)
- Your feeling of the game
- Your ‘read’ at any given time

I could go on and on. Frankly, poker is a lot more intricate then just mere card odds. If you could just play the odds and that was that there wouldn’t be any real essence to the game. Lets take an extreme example: the bluff. A bluff has got to be one of the most widely known, lucrative poker moves around. A bluff is essentially playing completely shot cards. An ABC Texas Holdem Poker Strategy would decree you fold the cards because they are ‘bad’ but you could be missing out on a great opportunity to steal some money.

It’s Not All Doom And Gloom

I understand the that ABC Texas Holdem does have its place. Its a great way for new players to learn which cards are better then others. Its a great way for those players to know when to play and when to fold so they don’t lose a bunch of money. There are many benefits of playing an ABC Texas Holdem Poker Strategy so if you are seriously struggling with your poker game then you may consider looking at it to get on the right track to start off with.

Think About It

Would a computer win against a professional Texas Holdem Poker player? If you configured a program to play poker based on a ABC Texas Holdem Poker Strategy would it be able to beat a table of real-life poker players? Poker is a lot more that just odds of cards and luck. Poker is a game of skill. Do you see the World Poker Tour champions winning with an ABC Texas Holdem Poker Strategy? I don’t think so.
